Microsoft have changed the way the desktop configuration menu looks, although functionality is very similar to previous versions of Windows. After right-clicking on the desktop, instead of 'Properties' we now select 'Personalize'.

The Vista Seven Personalisation Menus

1. Window Colour and Appearance

Equivalent to XP's Appearance tab | Colour scheme (above). Changes the general overall system colours.

2. Desktop Background

Equivalent to XP's Desktop tab (above). Changes the desktop wallpaper image.

3. Screensaver

Equivalent to XP's Screensaver tab (above). Changes the system screensaver.

4. Sounds

Equivalent to XP's Control Panel | Sounds icon. Changes the system sounds and other audio settings.

5. Mouse Pointers

Equivalent to XP's Control Panel | Mouse icon. Changes the system pointing device settings.

6. Theme

Equivalent to XP's Theme tab (above). Changes the Windows dialogue boxes, screensavers, desktop, etc.

7. Display Settings

Equivalent to XP's Settings tab (above). Changes the desktop screen resolution and other graphics settings.
